Trying to find the best electric scooters for tall people may feel like a bit of a mission, that’s because it is. While the E-Scooter world is growing in popularity among adults all over the world, one are companies are continuing to ignore is height of the handlebars.
When you’re over 6 foot tall, riding a regular E-Scooter can be quite cramped and uncomfortable. Not to mention dangerous and bad for your posture. Being hunched over without the proper line of sight can end up badly.
Which is why us taller folks really need an electric scooter with adjustable handlebar heights, and not just adjustable enough to suit your average height adult either. Something that can go up to 50 inches tall.
How Tall Should A Electric Scooter Be?
The height of the handlebar really needs to be as high as your waist/hips to be comfortable for the rider. For average height people, a comfortable height can range from 34″ to 38″.
But for the taller adult, the handlebars really need to be 40 inches or taller. The problem is, without physically having a demo of the scooter, you’re left guessing as to how tall the scooter is.
Most companies don’t give a height measurement for the handlebars, so you’re left to work it out yourself. To do this, you need to consider how high off the ground the deck is and subtract that number form the scooters total height. Which again, is not easy when you don’t know how high the deck is.
To help you get started, below you can find a number of taller electric scooters I have uncovered from my research. Much of this is based off height measurements and deck lengths to cater to a wider leg stance for the tall person. While also factoring in other tall peoples recommendations and or reviews.
Tall Electric Scooter For City Commuting
If you don’t need an off road scooter and want to feel comfortable zooming around the city, one of the tallest e-scooters I’ve come across is the Inokim OX. This is a well balanced scooter with very good suspension for maneuvering city streets.
While still maintaining a off road label, the OX is one of the better road scooters you can buy, the idea of riding a magic carpet springs to mind for me.
How tall is the Inokim OX?. Being often referred to as the SUV of the E-Scooter market, the OX offers close to a 50 inch height. But remember, you need to factor in the height of the deck, which is about 6 inches tall, leaving you with a nice 43-44″ tall handlebar.
As for the deck, you get a nice 47 inches of space, which includes the fork etc. But one of the more roomier decks for people with larger feet and wider stances.
Doesn’t Lack Power
One of the things I like about the OX is that it delivers a decent amount of power. So much so, you should wear a helmet onboard the OX as it can be faster than an electric bike maxing out at 31mph.
The top speed is made possible via the peak 1300watt motor. The 800w rated brushless motor is a significant improvement on the 300 watt motors you see around town. What will deliver is a scooter that is exceptional at responding to when you push on the throttle.
Plus the added power means you feel more controlled and stable when taking on slopes and hills. Something you don’t always get from a lessor 300watt motor.
Whats The Range Like?
Besides power, range is probably the next most important thing to consider. Nobody wants a ride that goes flat after 30 minutes of use. Fortunately, the OX uses a LG 21Ah battery, given LG has a good record in the technological world, its reassuring to start with.
Putting it to the test, in Eco mode you can get to about 56 miles before needing to recharge the battery. But should you have the option to push the OX to the limit, at top speed you could potentially travel 30 to 35 miles without stopping.
But range is often a result of the users body weight, speed and other determining factors. So do take these into consideration before planning a 2 hour ride at top speed, chance are, traveling in eco mode will prove more beneficial.
Overall, It’s Solid
Summing up the Inokim OX, its a great all round electric scooter. Can handle the steeper road slopes while having the ability to go off road when needed. The added bonus is of course the taller handlebar height enabling the tall person to feel more comfortable.
But because it is such a good scooter, it can cost a bit more than your regular 300 watt scooter. This is probably not the scooter to buy if you’re just buying a toy for the odd occasion. However, for regular daily commuting, the price makes sense.
Affordable Solution For Tall Adults
While the above Inokim OX is arguably one of the best e-scooters on the market, the price tag that comes with that recognition is not always an affordable route. If you haven’t got thousands of dollars to splash around, yet still want a taller electric scooter, this next option may be for you.
This is the S2 Hiboy which is the larger and taller version of the MAX. Coming in with a total height of 47.2 inches, once you allow for the height f the deck, you’re left with roughly a 42 inches height handlebar.
Great Commuting Scooter
Before you go any further, be aware that this e-scooter has considerably less power than that of the above OX, but comes in as more budget friendly option. So its a good scooter for commuting to work, shops, the park etc.
But just don’t expect to be breaking any speed records with the 350watt motor. 18.6pmph is the top speed, about half of that of the OX. But nonetheless, not everyone wants a scooter to blaze around the streets.
However, the range on the S2 Hiboy is also limited to 12 miles at top speed. At eco speed you can expect to travel about 16 miles per charge on the 36v lithium ion battery. While it’s certainly not as a powerful battery as the more premium line of scooters, the fact the batteries are regenerative is a huge bonus.
What this means is that when your scooting downhill or using the double brakes, the batteries self charge. So essentially you can recharge your batteries while out riding.
For monitoring speeds, cruise control and other various functions, you can download the Hiboy app. This won’t appeal to everyone, but it something that many people want from their scooter, the ability to monitor and control.
Mid-Range Tall Persons E-Scooter
The next electric scooter came as a result of a few other tall peoples recommendations. People up to 6’4″ have found the 45″ height to be adequate. But do keep in mind that the weight capacity on this Glion Dolly isn’t all that high.
The 220 pound capacity will mean some of the big and tall riders may be too heavy for the scooter to operate effectively. The deck on this scooter is a little shorter than ideal in my opinion also. So it really will be a case by case situation as to whether this e-scooter is suitable for your height.
About The Glion Dolly Scooter
The thing I find most convenient about this scooter is that it can be folded up and carried behind you like a rolling suitcase. So regardless of its weight, you can easily transport this thing when you’re not riding it. It can also stand up straight when folded, this makes for easy storage. A great feature in my opinion.
Its certainly not the most powerful scooter on the market, with just the single 250 watt motor with a peak of 600 watts. But if traveling at a top speed of 15 mph doesn’t bother you, than this may be a good choice.
After all, the money you save by using an e-scooter to commute to work each day can go towards other fun stuff in life. Its said that by using just $1 in electricity, you can get up to 500 miles traveled on the Glion Dolly.
Now this is obviously in the idealistic world, but still, even if you got half that way on just a dollar you’re winning. The estimated range on the Glion Dolly is just 15 miles and this was going at 9mph.
So if you commute further than say 10 miles to work each day, be prepared to recharge the LG 7.8Ah LG Lithium battery while at work.
QIEWA Adjustable Height Handlebars Electric Scooter
*Currently Unavailable on Amazon.
Having the ability to adjust the height of the handlebars is something all e-scooter companies should consider. It opens up a wider field in the market. Allowing users of any height to adjust the handles to a height that is comfortable for them.
The QPower by Qiewa is one of the few that do offer height adjustable handlebars. This is a great feature for the tall riders as it can enable them to suit a height that’s best for their height. When unfolded the Qpower measures 44.8″x 24.1″x41.7″.
One The Most Powerful Electric Scooters
While having height adjustable handlebars and a decent size standing platform, the QPower is not for everyone. Besides being a premium scooter, this thing is a beast when it comes to power, especially off road riding.
Featuring up to 3200watts of power, its easy to see why Qiewa named this scooter QPower. This power is achieved by using 2 motors at 1600 watts each and can reach some pretty crazy top speeds.
The Qpower is stated to reach up to 56mph, but some folks have had troubles reaching such high speeds. This may be a result of a speed restricting wire for safety reasons.
In terms of range, the QPower doesn’t disappoint thanks to the 26Ah lithium battery. Its claimed that this scooter can go up to 50 miles on the charge. But this will certainly not be a case which applies to everyone.
Considering you have the option to switch between 1 or 2 motors, depending on your needs, the distance you travel in between charges will vary. But it is certainly having the option to toggle between 1 or 2 motors as you can get that extra boost needed tackling a very steep hill.
Are You A Tall Electric Scooter Rider
There certainly isn’t a great number of options available to the tall people, and the very tall riders well may as well give up the dream. Alternatively, there is always the option to buy a tall kick scooter and use manual power to get you from point A to point B. Its still good to know that some of the taller folks have the opportunity to commute to work or school via a scooter like this.
Have you experienced an e-scooter before and you’re over 6 foot tall?. I’m sure other readers would love to hear some of your feedback and or suggestions on what worked for you. Feel free to drop a comment below and help out the other struggling tall riders out there.
